Watch: how to add the connector to Claude

Claude's interface changes regularly. Anthropic updates Claude monthly so button labels and screen layouts may look slightly different from the screenshots below. The steps are the same: sign up → get your URL → paste it into Claude → click Connect → set tools to Always approve.
1

Sign up and connect your Google account

Go to googleadsmcp.net/login.aspx and create your account. After logging in, go to MCP Settings and click Connect with Google. Sign in with the Google account that has access to your Google Ads.

On the Google consent screen select all permissions — Google Ads, Search Console, and GA4 are covered by the same login in one click.

After connecting, enter your Google Ads Account ID in MCP Settings (the 10-digit number in the top-right of Google Ads, format XXX-XXX-XXXX). Managing multiple clients via MCC? Enter your MCC ID and Claude will list all client accounts.

Finally, click Generate URL in MCP Settings and copy your personal MCP URL. This URL is your access key — keep it private.

2

Add the connector to Claude

In Claude, open Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector (or click the Add button in the Connectors panel). Paste your MCP URL into the URL field. Claude will auto-fill the connector name as GOOGLE ADS MCP. Click Continue.

On the next screen you'll see the authentication type auto-detected as None — Detected. This is correct — your personal token is already embedded in the URL so no separate login is needed. Scroll down and click Add connector.

Claude will show a warning that "anyone with access to this URL can use it." This is expected — your URL already contains your personal token. Keep the URL private, just like a password.
3

Click Connect to activate the connector

After adding the connector, Claude shows the connector detail screen with a Connect button. Click it to activate. This connects Claude to your personal MCP URL.

Once connected you'll see GOOGLE ADS MCP in the connector list with a Disconnect button — that means it's active.
4

Set tools to "Always approve"

This is the most important step. By default Claude sets all tools to Needs approval — which means it asks for confirmation before every single tool call, even read-only ones like listing campaigns. This makes it very slow to use.

In the connector detail screen, find the Read-only tools and Write tools sections. Change both dropdowns from Needs approval to Always approve. This lets Claude call tools automatically in the flow of a conversation — it still asks for your approval before making any changes to your account, that's handled at the conversation level.

Why is this safe? Even with Always approve enabled, all write actions (creating campaigns, adding keywords, pausing ads) still require your explicit yes in the conversation before Claude executes them. The "Always approve" setting only removes the extra confirmation popup for each individual tool call.
5

Test the connection

Start a new Claude chat and type:

ping google ads mcp

You should get back pong ✅ Google Connected: true with your account ID. If Google Connected shows false, go back to MCP Settings and reconnect your Google account.

Then try your first real query:

list my Google Ads accounts and audit the campaigns for the last 30 days

Claude will pull your account list, fetch campaign stats, and give you a structured report with specific recommendations — including wasted spend, keyword gaps, and Abs.Top IS scores. Every write action (creating campaigns, adding keywords) still requires your explicit approval in the conversation before anything changes.

See the Quick Guide for more example prompts — keyword gap analysis, Search Console queries, GA4 reports, campaign creation, and PMax setup.
